Oh Jubilate! This term we had a joyful show week for our Mid-school production, ‘Daisy Pulls it Off!’ Thank you to all those that helped out or supported in any way, big or small - we appreciate you!
Miss M Patman
Please see the write up from our Mr Thompson/Sir David Beaumont, Jamara M, below: From chaotic after school rehearsals to three joyful performances, the mid-school production of ‘Daisy Pulls it off!’ took place from the 19th to the 21st of November. The play focused on hard working, witty ‘Daisy Meredith’, a poor girl who had been accepted into a prestigious private school, where she’d meet a whole variety of special individuals, such as mad-cap poet, ‘Trixie Martin’, energetic hockey putter, ‘Dixie Martin’, snobbish rich girls, ‘Sybil Burlington’ and ‘Monica Smithers’, unique school pupils and a whole host of specialised teachers! Daisy’s main purpose was to push through until the end of term, as well as find the hidden treasure of the late Sir Digby Beaumont in order to save the school. Throughout the production, laughter had empowered us all during the course of each evening, as well as gasps out of shock from various scenes (including the sudden plot twist at the end with Mr Thompson and Daisy!) Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in performing this lively play. There were many obstacles along the way to show week, such as our hefty stone gates (styrofoam) falling down every 10 minutes, our curtain wings being ripped off during the tech run and the challenge of performing in a traverse stage instead of a traditional proscenium stage set-up. Eleven weeks of rehearsals (including a Sunday, INSET and whole day) were tiring, yet worth the wait for a spectacular show to be put on! The whole experience was very uplifting; meeting new people can be difficult, but we had to come together and push through to create an immersive experience for audience members, who thoroughly enjoyed the production! We couldn’t have pulled this production off without the support of our amazing directors, set, lighting, stage managers and of course, the actors. During the course of show week and rehearsals, we had all forged friendships with people in other year groups, and made memories we will always cherish and treasure for the rest of our lives. Lastly, some wise words from Daisy’s mother, 'You might find boarding school life strange or perhaps difficult at first, but be straight with everyone and you'll pull through!' Until next time… for our next production!
Jamara M, 10I
