On Wednesday, 10th June, the TWGGS Music Department welcomed a fantastic choir of Years 4 to 6 pupils from Bidborough Primary School as part of their ‘Children’s University’ module, 'How to be a Pop Star'. The visiting pupils were treated like true VIPs - from printing their own photo ID badges at Reception to receiving an exclusive tour of our recording studio and music technology facilities from Ms Ives. Before hitting the recording booth, the children enjoyed an inspiring mini-concert by eight of our talented Year 8 and 9 pupils, who performed beautiful arrangements of 'True Colours' for Piano Trio and 'A Thousand Years' for Harp Quintet. Our older pupils then stayed to chat, share their musical journeys, answer questions and introduce their instruments to the captivated young guests.
The Bidborough choir then rehearsed with Mrs Waddington, who kindly stepped in to accompany them on the piano. The children recorded two well-known pop tracks featuring custom lyrics rewritten especially for their Year 6 school leavers. The memorable afternoon wrapped up with squash, biscuits, and a souvenir TWGGS Music pencil to take home. The collaboration was a heartwarming success, with one visiting teacher sharing that the experience had truly 'made our dreams come true'. A massive thank you goes to Mrs Waddington and Mr Bicknell for their invaluable help and support in making this special community event possible! We hope to repeat is every year.
Owing to this week's hot weather, the Junior Concert has been reschedued to take place on Wednesday, 1st July. Please join us to celebrate the musical talent of our wonderful KS3 pupils. The evening will be an opportunity to showcase our larger ensembles with an eclectic mix of music from all genres. Tickets purchased will be carried over to this date. We hope to see you there.
