Year 10 Spanish Trip to Battersea

Year 10 Spanish Trip to Battersea

18th Mar 2026

On Monday, 9th March, the Year 10 Spanish classes went to the Battersea Spanish Centre to practise our language skills and familiarise ourselves with different cultures. We all put our Spanish to great use by learning how to order food at a restaurant. To practise this, we did roleplays about a typical restaurant experience, where some of us were the customers while the others were the waiters. The 'waiters' had to ask if they had any allergies and if a 'customer' tried to 'buy' alcohol the 'waiter' had to ask for their age and decide to trust them or not. Then, after learning about carnivals and fiestas from around the world, we worked in groups to design our own carnival events. Each group came up with different and creative ideas for their celebration, presenting their carnivals to the rest of the class, pitching their event and trying to persuade the other groups to attend. At the end, everyone decided which group had created the most exciting and convincing carnival. We then learnt about the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries around the world, followed by a quick-fire quiz to test our knowledge.

The most exciting part of our day was the salsa dance class! Everyone was extremely excited to learn to dance like Shakira. We learnt all the basic steps at first. It started to get more complicated when we were put into pairs and had to mirror each other's movements. Although a little challenging at first, by the end of the class our 'hips did not lie'!

Altogether we had an amazing time practising our Spanish in real-life situations, while also learning about different cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries and, of course, dancing our hearts out!
