The U16 Hockey Squad From their first steps onto the pitch in Year 7 to their final season in Year 11, our U16 Hockey Squad has been nothing short of extraordinary. They officially cement their place as the most successful team in TWGGS' history, leaving behind a legacy of grit, talent, and record-breaking achievements. The Road to the Top This team’s journey has been defined by a consistent climb to the summit of school sports:
- Years 7 & 8: Reached the Regional Finals - Year 9: Crowned U14 National Champions - Year 10: National Finalists Building on that momentum, the squad stepped up to the Tier 2 National Competition for the first time this year. Their dedication was evident long before the whistle blew, with players committing to relentless morning and lunchtime training sessions. Taking on the Best The competition saw our girls face off against some of the country’s most elite private schools. After a sensational run to win the South Section, the team travelled to Worcester to face a formidable King’s Worcester side. In true TWGGS fashion, even another 'minibus disaster' couldn't dampen their spirits! Despite the travel hiccups, the girls displayed incredible teamwork and resilience on the pitch. While the match ultimately ended in defeat, marking the end of their competition run, the achievement cannot be overstated: they were the only state school to progress this far in the tournament.
A Class Act Beyond the trophies and the statistics, we are incredibly proud of the way these athletes represent our school. Their support for one another and their unwavering work ethic continue to amaze us. Well done, Team! You have made TWGGS history.
