On Wednesday, 28th January we were treated to a wonderful concert of solo and small ensemble music by some of our very talented Year 7 pupils. Despite the pouring rain outside, a packed MU1 was created into a haven of tranquillity with music ranging from Baroque to Disney. Everyone performed so beautifully and it was such a joy to watch our youngest pupils begin their musical journey here at TWGGS with such flair and poise. Well done to all who performed, and to the wonderful Sixth Form who helped with all the organisation. Last week we were also treated to a Year 8 and 9 solo and small ensemble concert. Once again the range of music and talent was absolutely amazing in pupils so young, and it was wonderful to watch them go from selecting the repertoire, arranging their rehearsals and then standing up and performing with such confidence. Well done to everyone who performed and, once again, thank you to our Sixth Form for their help. Lower and Upper Sixth A Level Music pupils had a movie night after school on Tuesday, 3rd February to watch the film ‘Batman Returns’. We are studying the musical score to this film as part of the analysis unit for A Level Music and so it seemed only right to watch the movie (with some Domino's pizzas) to really understand the music. Great fun was had by all! Finally, huge congratulations to Stella W (L6S) and Marcy W (9G) who completed their Royal Schools of Church Awards. These are extremely high level examinations where entrants are tested in singing accompanied and unaccompanied hymns, plainsong, psalms and anthems. They are then put through very rigorous aural tests, technical questions and musicianship tests before talking about their experience of being in a church choir, how it relates to the community, and are asked detailed questions about the Bible and Eucharist. Bronze, Silver and Gold awards are the highest examined tier of awards, and highly commended is the highest achievement. Marcy was awarded her Silver Award with highly commended and Stella achieved her Gold Award, also with highly commended. We are extremely proud of both pupils and a huge well done from the Music Department.
