Year 8 Languages Enrichment Day

On Tuesday, 2nd July, Year 8 pupils took part in an exciting day of language enrichment. Pupils enjoyed participating in a varied and fun programme, which included Spanish Music, French Art, German Drama and Handball. They also had the opportunity to try out Greek and Polish languages and came dressed colourfully as their allocated country.

Well done 8S, who won the best dressed form for embracing their Spanish theme! Pupils who won the treasure hunt were treated to a voucher for an escape room, courtesy of Clue Cracker. This annual event is always very popular and it was lovely to hear all pupils singing their hearts out in three languages at the finale!

Year 9 Annual Spelling Bee

Huge congratulations to the winners of the Year 9 MFL Spelling Bee: Florence (French), Jamara (Spanish) and Rose (German). The Spelling Bee is a competition run during the summer term by the Languages department. After practising a range of phonics in their lessons, pupils are given a list of 30 words to learn and must be able to pronounce them accurately and spell them using the French, German or Spanish alphabet. The winners from each form are then invited to a final and given a new set of words to learn. The final took place on Thursday, 10th July and was a tightly-fought competition. We were really impressed with everyone’s efforts and delighted with the support the finalists had from their friends and fellow competitors.
