On a scorching day in June twelve members of the TWGGS ski team swapped the sunshine for -6°C conditions at the Hemel Hempstead snow dome, and hit the slopes for a Sunday night training session in Milton Keynes snow dome. For many, it was their first time racing on actual snow! Afterwards, we headed to Hemel Hempstead Nando’s for our annual team bonding dinner, fuelling up for the big ESSKIA race on Monday. The three TWGGS teams were all up against tough competition from private schools who train regularly on snow with their own coaches. Thanks to our brilliant weekly sessions at Bowles, they did us proud. The team spirit and kindness across the year groups to their fellow teammates is testament to the values taught at TWGGS and as parents it is a pleasure to accompany these girls. Our Category 2 team, Amelie W, Ellie K and Eloise D S, 8W, and Alie O, 8T, took home silver medals. Amelie also won second fastest individual in her age category. Our Category 3 team consisting of Lorraine D S and Bella F, 10T, Isabella B, 9T, and Clara J, 9S, brought home bronze. Our final team consisting of Isabella B, 7W, Hannah F, 9S, Isla T, 8W, and Sophie F, 7Y, skied their hearts out and did the school proud, as for many this was their first year of ski racing. We will be back in September entering the ESSKIA regional qualifiers at Chatham ski slope.
