Year 9 Camp at Deers Leap

Year 9 Camp at Deers Leap

24th Jun 2026

We have two staff reports for the Year 9 Camp to share:

Trip One

The first half of our Year 9 cohort had an incredible time at camp, throwing themselves into a range of exciting outdoor activities including bouldering, paddle boarding, axe throwing, clip lining and climbing. Even a massive storm couldn't dampen spirits, with pupils embracing every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. The fun continued into the evenings with activities such as Capture the Flag, a very competitive quiz and a creative bin-liner fashion show.

We have been hugely impressed by how involved and positive everyone has been throughout the experience - a fantastic few days of adventure, teamwork and fun!

Trip Two

On Wednesday, 3rd June, the second half of Year 9 departed TWGGS in the rain to travel to Deers Leap Park for three days of activities and two nights sleeping in tents with friends. Despite the rainy start, the rain eased and the activities promptly started with some groups enjoying the opportunity to paddle board and others starting the trip with team building tasks in their new activity groups.

The next morning, the whole group gathered again for breakfast before setting off in activity groups to embark on more exciting activities such as rock scrambling, archery and axe throwing. After another busy day of activities and a bit of rain, groups were given some time to dry off before meeting again for dinner. The post dinner group activity for our final night consisted of a quiz followed by a bin bag fashion show.

On our final day, activity groups were able to engage in two more activities before packing up their tents ahead of our departure back to TWGGS on the Friday afternoon.

Year 9 pupils not only had the opportunity to spend time with each other while taking part in a range of activities but they also demonstrated a good level of resilience in the face of some heavy rain at times and remained positive despite a lack of sleep for some!
