After completing their study of the First World War, including a visit to the mock trenches and talks exploring soldiers’ experiences at the Centre for Experimental Military Archaeology (CEMA), our Year 9 pupils have been tasked with creating their own collection of artefacts. These artefacts will showcase what life was like for soldiers living and fighting in the trenches. The project encourages pupils to reflect on what they have learned, deepen their understanding of trench conditions, and present their insights in a creative and meaningful way.
The History Department also invited TWGGS pupils and staff to share any family experiences or stories connected to the First World War, such as Mrs Clarke's father-in-law ringing the bell in the Leaning Tower of Pisa to signal victory at the end of WWII, and Kristina J's great-grandfather joining the resistance in the Netherlands at the age of 15. These personal accounts help bring history to life and enrich our understanding of the past.
Please visit our Remembrance Display in the main corridor and, if you have a story to share, we would love to hear from you!
