We had a fabulous evening at the Junior Concert recently with a packed audience! Starting with a thrilling 'Thriller' from Junior Orchestra, finishing with a great rendition of 'Just Can't Wait to be King' from the whole of Year 7, and many amazing soloists and other groups in between, it was a wonderful evening of entertainment! Huge congratulations to everyone who took part, and we're really looking forward to our next big music event, the school Carol Service on Friday, 5th December. Lucky GCSE and A Level Music pupils had a wonderful trip to Glyndebourne Opera, to see the premiere of a new opera by Mark Anthony Turnage of The Railway Children. This production was a real spectacle, made all the more special by a pre-performance talk by the composer himself, and a quick opportunity to meet one of the main characters after the show. Some pupils even managed to get some autographs after the show, and a quick picture with 'Bobbie'. A very lovely day! Some of our senior musicians enjoyed a fabulous weekend of music last weekend, with two packed contrasting events; on Saturday evening, our Chamber Choir teamed up with Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir for a charity concert in aid of Hospice in the Weald. It was a fabulous evening of a variety of choral music, with our pupils stunning the crowd with their high standard and well rehearsed pieces. A huge congratulations to all involved, we are very proud of you! On Sunday afternoon, shoppers at Salomons Festive Winter Shopping Fair were treated to some TWGGS carol singing whilst they perused the array of Christmassy stalls. Again, pupils were brilliantly professional and well received, with several passers by stopping to enjoy the performance. Again, huge thanks to all the pupils involved for their willingness to give up precious weekend time. A special thanks to Mimi, who even came to sing on her birthday!
We received the loveliest message from Mr Tom McGloin, from The Nevill Crest and Gun, who told us, 'I was both moved and astounded by the quality of the Chamber Choir that sang in Tonbridge on Saturday evening. The quality of the singing and the way the girls performed were both a credit and a testament to the quality and dedication of the music department and school. I am a recent member of the Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir and was left in awe at the quality that you all delivered. I would have no reservations in paying good money to see such a quality arrangement, and for such a young group it was truly refreshing to see such a polished and skilled performance delivered to such a standard. My wife and friends were in tears following their singing! Please pass on my thanks to the girls and the music department, who I would be both honoured and privileged to be able to sing with in the very near future! I felt very much upstaged by their quality; and as local publican would both relish, and be very keen to have them perform again with us at the pub should they wish!'
