U13 Kent County Cricket Champions!

Match Report by Silvie, Year 8:

'On Tuesday, 25th June, TWGGS took a team of 10 girls to the second round of the county hard ball tournament. The tournament was hosted by Mote Cricket Club, and we won the tournament and are now Kent champions!

In our first match against Benenden, we won the toss and chose to bowl. The team bowled with real energy and focus, and we managed to take seven wickets. We kept the pressure on throughout, but unfortunately couldn't remove their best and last batter before the innings ended.

When it was our turn to bat, Laura and Eli opened confidently. After Eli was dismissed, I came in at number three. Laura was in great form and reached her retirement score of 20 quickly. I then built a good partnership with Molly, and together we kept the scoreboard ticking over. It felt calm and composed out there, and we managed to chase down the runs steadily to win the game.

Going into the final against Ashford, we knew this opposition would be tougher, but we were up for the challenge. We again won the toss and bowled first. The batters on the other team were strong – they found boundaries and ran well between the wickets – but I was really impressed with how we kept our intensity up. Everyone bowled their best and our fielding stayed solid, which was great to see under pressure.

Batting second, Eli and Laura opened again, but we had an early setback when Eli was run out going for a second run. I joined Laura and we worked well together, enjoying the faster outfield and nicer pitch – it definitely felt better for hitting! We both managed to retire after some hard-hitting shots and good running between the wickets.

After Laura retired, Molly came in, and then when I retired a couple overs later, Daphne came in. With two new batters at the crease, things could have slowed down, but Molly and Daphne rose to the occasion and batted positively. Their confidence helped us finish the chase in the penultimate over, with plenty of wickets in hand.

Both matches showed how well we’ve developed as a team – with strong performances in batting, bowling, and fielding. I’m especially proud of how everyone stepped up when needed and stayed positive throughout. Winning the final was such a brilliant feeling, and I’m so lucky to captain such a determined and supportive team.

Well played, everyone!'
