TWGGS ski racing team have had a fantastic start to the season with some remarkable achievements. On 20th September three teams took part in the English Schools Ski Association (ESSKIA) regional qualifiers at Chatham Ski Slope. The girls skied fantastically completing all of their runs successfully. In the Category 3 section (Years 9-10) TWGGS placed first (Amelie W, 9Y, Ellie K, 9T, Jess P, 10S and Eloise D-S, 9B) and fourth (Clara J, 10S, Alie O, 9B and Isabella B, 8W). Our Category 4 team placed seventh (Bella F, 11T, India F, 7Y, Sophie F, 8Y and Isla T, 9Y). The individual results showed some significant improvements in timings, with some of our newer racers knocking several seconds off their previous times. The winning team qualified for the National finals in Norwich on 10th October where they placed an incredible second by a margin of only 0.7 seconds over their six combined times compared to the National Champions. Making a weekend of the team's trip to Norfolk, we entered a team of four pupils (Amelie, Eloise, Ellie and Clara) into the English Open Championships on the Sunday. This is a race with no age categories, with secondary schools from all over the country entering their fastest racers. With a challenging course, and against some of the best racers in the country, they successfully qualified to represent Team England. They will be racing at Hillend in Scotland in November at the British Finals. Amelie and Clara also entered the National Schools Ski Association Southern Championships in Chatham on the 26th September. They won the secondary female team award, with Clara placing second and Amelie fourth in their respective categories. On the back of these races individual selections have been made for both the English Schools Ski Association Alpine Squad and the National Schools Ski Association Alpine Squad. Amelie and Clara have been selected for both squads, with Eloise, Ellie and Bella selected for the English Schools. These are all huge achievements and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them, and excited for what lies ahead. We have welcomed some new members this term and are always keen to grow the team. If you would like any further information about the club, please email twggsskiteam@gmail.com. Training is from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesdays at Bowles Activity Centre.
