The Young Enterprise Fiver Challenge

15th Oct 2026

Daisy G, 7S, was in Year 6 at her primary school when, as part of a larger group called 'Jolly Jars', she devised a business idea for The Young Enterprise Fiver Challenge, part of the nationwide Young Enterprise initivaitve, supported by HSBC UK. As part of their business, the group had to bid for their funding as well as carry out market research, design, create, market and sell their product. Finally, they created spreadsheets to work out their sales, expenses and profits.

The product was recycled jam jars, designed with a variety of holiday themes such as city breaks, beach holidays, theme parks and skiing. The idea was that people could pop souvenirs from their holidays in the jar as a keepsake. One jar has a rugby theme (pictured), designed for Daisy's brother who is going on a rugby tour next summer.

Over 400 schools entered The Fiver Challenge with 32,000 children taking part. Five awards were given and Daisy's group were runners-up nationally in Best for Sustainability. The 2026 awards ceremony, hosted by broadcaster and entrepreneur Steph McGovern, took place at the HSBC Headquarters in Canary Wharf, London, on the 5th October. The ceremony celebrated the entrepreneurial talent of primary school children, and they should be very proud of their achievements. Well done Daisy!
