Adventures in Avignon

20th May 2026

The French exchange trip to Avignon returned last week, and we have two pupil reports to share:

'Our French exchange trip from 7th to 12th May 2026 was an unforgettable experience. We spent the first day travelling to Marseille before enjoying a beautiful boat tour of the Calanques in Cassis with some of the most amazing views I have ever seen, then travelling to Avignon where we met our host families in the evening. My first night was spent getting to know the family and it was great getting to speak and practise french. During the week we explored Avignon, visiting many beautiful markets, the impressive Palais des Papes, the famous Pont d’Avignon and more! We also enjoyed a tourist train ride around the town. The time spent with our host families and exchange partners was definitely a highlight - we met up with lots of other TWGGS, Skinners' and French friends, went laser tagging, rock climbing and even visited a beautiful beach. The food was amazing throughout the trip, and everyone was so welcoming. On our final full day, we experienced school life at Collège Champfleury before visiting Les Baux de Provence and the incredible Carrières de Lumières art exhibition featuring the works of Picasso and Frida Kahlo. Overall, the exchange was an amazing opportunity to experience French culture, make new friends and create memories we will never forget.'

'This year’s French exchange was an amazing experience to get a feel for French culture and history first-hand. Some of the highlights included the boat tour of the Les Calanques in Cassis where we saw stunning cliffs and clear blue water, the famous Pont d’Avignon and the Palais des Papes, which taught us a lot about French history.

Spending the weekend with our French exchange partners was a great opportunity to experience everyday life in France and improve our language skills. We were also able to visit Les Beaux de Provence and Les Carrières de Lumières, where the Frida Kahlo and Pablo Picasso light exhibitions were an amazing sight to see.'
