In March, Ilana N-E, L6T, and Bella J, 11I, travelled to Edinburgh for their first international competition. With competitors from 40 nations, including various Olympic medal winning athletes, the competition was certainly high. Ilana made finals in her 200m fly and both performed well throughout. Ilana had the pleasure of competing with some of the same athletes a month later when she swam in the Commonwealth Trials at London Aquatics Centre where she came away with a season's best in 100m fly.
The South East Swimming Championships have taken place over the last three weekends and the region has some of the highest qualifying times in the UK, so to qualify is a huge achievement in itself. We have the following successes to celebrate:
Safia C in Year 8 qualified for four events and put in some strong swims.
Elsie S in Year 9 qualified for nine events and made three finals. She did some solid swims and came away with a Bronze Medal for 50m backstroke.
Cheryl T in Year 9 qualified for four races and swam well and produced a couple of personal best times.
Bella J in Year 11 qualified for eight events and made the finals for all eight. She swam some very tight finals and ended up with a Bronze for 200m Freestyle.
Ilana N-E in Lower Sixth competed in three events and again fought some strong competition to come away with two silvers for 100m fly and 200m fly.
Well done to them all.
Following the regional championship, those who have qualified for the British and English National Championships in the summer have been announced this week. Huge congratulations to Ilana, Bella and Elsie for all qualifying.
