The biennial PTA Sponsored Walk is back, and will be taking place on the morning of Friday 7th October. It’s a big fundraiser for the school, so we hope you’ll be able to support it.

What is it?
A relaxed 4 ¼ mile walk on local footpaths, pavements and roads. It takes place in school time, starting first thing at school and returning in time for lunch. We hope that all pupils will collect sponsorship money for their efforts, to raise funds for our school.
 

Who takes part?
We hope that all pupils will take part - every TWGGS pupil is encouraged to.
 

How do they know where to go?
The walk is marshalled. Each form walks with its tutor and form prefect. A map is provided for each pair of pupils.
 

What to wear?
An added highlight of the walk is the inter-form fancy dress competition – each form decides on a theme and there will be prizes for the top three forms. Bear in mind that the route can be uneven, wet and muddy so pupils must wear appropriate footwear. Pupils should change into/out of their costumes at school (bring a plastic bag for muddy footwear) and should wear full uniform to and from school.
 

And if it rains?
The walk will go ahead, irrespective of weather conditions on the day. Please provide your child with waterproofs, if rain is forecast.
 

What do I need to do?
Confirm that you give permission for your child to take part, and that they have seen the attached code of conduct. Please do this by completing this Google form.  If the PTA do not receive permission confirmation for your child, they will be unable to participate and will have to remain in school for supervised quiet private study that morning.
 

Do I need to collect sponsor money?
This is a fundraising event to support our school, and we are grateful for every penny raised, although we understand times are tough for many families. Please gather any sponsorship money you and your family can afford to give. This time, we have decided to give up on paper sponsor forms which we used previously and so we are asking for all sponsor money to be submitted by BACS. We will send details of how we are collecting sponsorship nearer the time.
 

Can I help?
Yes, please! As you can imagine, organising 1,000 pupils in a sponsored walk is quite a logistical challenge. A good number of people have already volunteered but if you can help and haven’t already come forward, please email us at sponsoredwalk@twggs.kent.sch.uk
