Congratulations to Ava P. in Year 7 who responded to the call for young artists and creators across the borough to take part in Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's Eco Arts competition.

The competition was open to everybody of school age and entrants were asked to create a piece of artwork based on one of their themes. They were encouraged to be as creative as possible and, while suggestions included drawings, a short story or a poem, Ava's inspired winning creation was fashioned from old ties in response to the theme of 'No Time to Waste'.

Ava's skilfully made piece showcases the beauty of upcycling. In the words of the curator of the gallery at The Amelia Scott, 'this dress challenges public perceptions of consumerism, highlighting the importance of re-using materials and acknowledging that an everyday item can have more than one purpose.'

Ava's prize winning work is on display at The Amelia Scott.
