This exciting new course aims to provide pupils with the opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the development of ICT systems through practical experience, in using a range of applications software in a structured way. Among the many benefits, this new specification is designed to encourage candidates to:

• provide quality ICT-based solutions to a range of problems
• develop an awareness of developments in technology
At AS, the two units are complementary and are concerned with applying ICT to solve problems and the study of the opportunities for and effects of using ICT in the world today.
AS EXAMINATION
UNIT 1
Pratical Problem Solving in the Digital World.
Written paper 1 hour 30 minutes.
UNIT 2
Living in the Digital World.
Written paper 1 hour 30 minutes.
At A2 unit 3 covers developments in technology, information needs of organisations, ICT systems and management of ICT. Pupils also look at developing ICT systems, introducing large ICT systems into organisations and training and supporting users of ICT systems. Unit 4 covers practical issues involved in managing the use of ICT in organisations. It involves a single piece of coursework giving pupils the opportunity to work with an organisation looking at real issues in creating an information system

Written paper 2 hours.

Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in the Digital World.
Coursework.

What happens when you have finished?
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Information and Communication Technology, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Information and Communication Technology or more general higher education courses as the course offers skills that are useful in lots of subjects.
With further training you could go into a job directly related to Information and Communication Technology such as a Computer Programming, Technology or Website Development.
You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge for entering today's workforce across many industries who depend on computers and technology more generally.
