A Levels

“The school has ensured there is a highly effective culture of success and achievement across the sixth form. The sixth-form offer is broad and dynamic. Staff demonstrate highly effective checking of understanding and feedback, which supports all pupils to develop a deep understanding of what they are taught.”

A Level subject teachers are always happy to help pupils make the right choices. An options evening is held in October for Year 11 pupils, at which subject teachers are present to discuss what their courses entail, as are members of the Senior Leadership Team. Current Sixth Formers also provide further information during the course of the evening.

Detailed subject information can also be found under the Curriculum Subject pages.

To enable us to provide courses to suit the requirements of our pupils, we ask them, early in Year 11, to consider possible subject preferences for the following year. All subjects are two-year courses, with a small number also being offered at AS Level, ending in June of the Lower Sixth year. Pupils either do 3 or 4 A Levels over the two year course. In addition to the A Levels studied, pupils have the opportunity later in Year 11 to select one or more additional enrichment courses, such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Arts Award Gold or an AS Level.

It should be noted that subjects which do not secure sufficient interest may not subsequently be offered. Furthermore, there will only be one class in many subjects (because of demand) and, therefore, pupils may find they wish to take two subjects in the same option column. For this reason, we recommend considering a reserve subject or subjects and investigating it an an early stage, alongside the main choices. It may be possible to take a subject that cannot be studied here, or to avoid a clash of options, at The Skinners’ School, however, this is often not certain until much later in Year 11.
