Reporting an absence

TWGGS uses Edulink One, a web-based parent portal which can be accessed from a standard web browser, such as Google Chrome, or via a mobile app which can be used on Apple or Android devices. Details of usernames and passwords for the app are shared with parents by us, and the document below takes you through how to log on and use the portal.

Edulink Guide for Parents

Unnamed

The Edulink One portal is a quick and simple method for reporting an absence. We ask that you report on each day that your child is absent to avoid any ambiguity. If your child will be off school for a known period of time, for example if they have been signed off by a doctor, then please state this in the notes on the Edulink message, so that our staff can interpret this effectively. You can also attach medical notes to the message that you send.

If your child is marked absent in morning registration, and we have not received details from you about the reason for their absence by 9.30am, then you should expect to be contacted soon afterwards via the messaging system on Edulink. This will remind you to send in details about your child's absence for that day.

If you are unable to report your child's absence through Edulink please telephone the school number (01892 520902) or email reception@twggs.kent.sch.uk between 8am and 9.30am on the day of absence.

Medical and dental appointments should be made out of school hours. If this cannot be arranged, please advise the school of the appointment at least two days in advance and write a signed note in their planner. Pupils leaving school for medical appointments must sign out and back in again at Reception. Pupils are expected to catch up on all work and homework missed through absence, usually within one week of returning to school.

Absence Notes

When pupils return to school after absence, they should bring their Form Tutor a note in their planner or a written note signed by a parent/carer.

Doctors' Certificates

These are required giving clearance after certain illnesses.

Family Holidays

Holidays must be taken in school holiday time. We do not authorise absence during term time as this clearly has a major impact on pupils’ learning. If it is unavoidable, a letter should be sent to the Headteacher, requesting permission well in advance and the absence will be recorded as unauthorised in all but exceptional circumstances.
